The North American AIDS Cohort Collaboration on Research and Design (NA-ACCORD) study team invites applications for a full-time Research Associate to join an active research team focused on the epidemiology of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in a collaborative study design of >20 clinical and interval longitudinal studies of adults living with HIV in the US and Canada ( The Research Associate will become an essential part of the Epidemiology/Biostatistics Core (EBC) team, working closely with co-directors, Drs. Stephen Gange and Keri Althoff, within the Statistics in Epidemiology (STATEPI) group, Department of Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The NA-ACCORD is a well-established collaboration of cohorts that is currently focused on research initiatives that include benchmarking progress towards national HIV goals using tools such as the HIV Care Continuum, the occurrence of age-related comorbidities among adults with HIV, and the impact of direct acting antivirals for the treatment of hepatitis C virus infection on health outcomes among co-infected adults.

Primary tasks include:

     ·  Providing study design expertise to answer research questions using NA-ACCORD data

     ·  Overseeing data management protocols executed and maintained by the EBC staff of
          data managers

     ·  Providing input on statistical analysis plans conducted by the EBC staff of biostatisticians

     ·  Ensuring reproducibility of research standards are met

     ·  Drafting scientific manuscripts

     ·  Creating scientific presentations of data

     ·  Assisting with grant applications

     ·  Communication with internal and external scientific investigators


Abilities needed:

     ·  Ability to work independently, as most work will be performed independently

     ·  Good problem solving skills, including organizing and investigating possible solutions

     ·  Good organizational, written and verbal communication skills

     ·  Good interpersonal skills in dealing with investigators and a “team-oriented” approach with 
          other NA-ACCORD EBC staff members and scientists

Education:  Doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, MD, ScD) in epidemiology or related field

Special Skills/Knowledge:

     ·  Competence in research methods used in epidemiologic research

     ·  Excellent written skills, demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and/or external
          research funding

     ·  Excellent oral skills and command of the English language

     ·  Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects

     ·  Working knowledge of SAS

     ·  Microsoft Office programs proficiency

Related Work Experience: 3 years related experience in a work or academic setting or demonstrated ability on significant graduate school project

Additional Information: 

     ·  STATA and/or R proficiency (in addition to SAS programming)

     ·  Experience working in a collaborative study design would be considered an advantage

     ·  Experience with “big data” would be considered an advantage

     ·  Experience working with observational clinical or interval cohorts would be considered
          an advantage

     ·  Experience working with electronic medical records would be considered an advantage
